Rochester Castle, Kent

Rochester Castle Wall Collapse Rochester Castle Wall Collapse Soil Nailing Ground Anchors Rochester Castle Wall Collapse Foundation Support

When an ancient stone retaining wall suddenly and unexpectedly collapsed over a weekend, Geoforte Ground Engineering where amongst the first specialist contractors on the scene at very short notice to provide a quick solution to the problem with the speedy design and installation of tensioned ground anchors and associated support works for English Heritage.

Supplemented by trench sheeting and shoring from structural steelwork columns on independent mass concrete footings, this temporary structure provided immediate support to the failed bank and prevented a higher terrace stone wall, dating back to the time of William the Conqueror, from being further undermined and collapsing.

Geoforte have also put forward a permanent solution in the form of soil nailing and re-building the lower terrace failed masonry wall as a tie- back structure which will involve minimal excavation and reinstate the original aspect of this historic monument.

Whatever your requirements for soil stabilisation, foundations works and general ground engineering speak to a team that works to the highest standards. Contact us at Geoforte today for a full consultation and estimate on your stabilisation or piling project.
